Montana's Tommerup earns Big Sky honors

University of Montana senior Brady Tommerup was named the Big Sky Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week the league office announced Tuesday. Tommerup, who shared this week's accolades with Sacramento State's Anton Stryhas, was honored for his play last weekend as the Grizzlies traveled to Colorado to face Northern Colorado, Air Force and No. 59 Denver.

Tommerup, of Vancouver, Wash., went 3-0 at No. 6 singles on the trip and teamed up with freshman Mikolaj Borkowski to go 2-1 in doubles play at the No. 3 position as Montana opened its Big Sky schedule with a 7-0 victory over UNC before falling to the Falcons and Pioneers by 5-2 scores.

Tommerup posted singles victories against UNC's Jeremy Behm-Meyer, 6-3, 6-1, USAFA's Austin Francis, 7-6 (7), 6-4, and DU's Ravjot Dhatt (DU), 6-3, 6-4.

Paired with Borkowski, the duo defeated Northern Colorado's Eric Kinsey and Kyle Barrett, 8-1, and Denver's Timo Kienle and Kalle Rosen, 8-4, and fell to Air Force's Keith Cronican and James Tomlin, 9-7.

Montana continues play this weekend when the Grizzlies play at Eastern Washington on Saturday morning.
